About

Children and Parents Learn New Ways to Think, Act, Cope, and Heal.

10/12/2022 - NOTE: My business cell phone quit working this week and unfortunately messages were lost from people that had called about an appointment. The phone number now on this website is a new number that works. However, the best way to make contact is through the email link on this website, or by emailing leahheadings@childandfamilycounseling.org. Thanks. LH Leah Headings is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 35 years of post-masters experience. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Mississippi in 1973. After working in child welfare and community mental health in Richmond, Virginia, Leah earned her Masters of Social Work, specializing in mental health, from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1980. Leah has worked in all mental health settings, including out-patient, day treatment, in-patient, and residential treatment. She has worked with a variety of populations including the chronically mentally ill and elderly patients, but has chosen to specialize in working with children, adolescents and their families. Leah has extensive training and experience in working with children who have experienced the trauma of sexual abuse, and children who have ADHD and/or Oppositional Defiant Disorder. She uses a variety of modalities to help children and families including Individual Therapy, Family Therapy, Play Therapy, and Forensically Sensitive Play Therapy. Leah worked at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Northeast Mississippi from 1998 – 2005, first as a therapist and then as the Director from 2002 – 2005. She started Child and Family Counseling of Tupelo in 2006. Leah is willing to answer any questions you may have about her experience, training, and education. Leah works with families to help them find solutions to their problems and concerns. She does this first by listening and providing support. But more importantly, Leah believes in providing practical knowledge and skills to help parents and children learn new ways to cope, manage feelings and behavior, and be the best they can be through growth and healing.
